Animals have played important roles in movies for decades. There are some classics where you remember the pet as much as the rest of the cast. Some of them have inspired people around the world to name their pets after these animal stars, and you may have very well done the same at some point.

Some film makers spend weeks deliberating which animal to use in their movie. But the success of “Lemony Snicket’s unfortunate Series of Events” shows that a mismatch of dogs, cats, snakes and fish also works well.

Both life action and cartoons have been built around a central character/s that is an animal. Here are some of my favorites, and there’s no doubt in my mind that you’ll be familiar with at least a few of these.

One of the earliest, and still incredibly popular, was the wonderful 101 Dalmatians. Pongo and Perdita have their puppies stolen by the evil Cruella Deville, and gain another 90 or so along the way! All of these dogs are easily identified by most children.

Famous film from decades ago was remade with Eddie Murphy taking the lead role of Dr Doolittle. He can talk to animals and understand what they are saying, which all lead him into a series of situations. Two sequels followed.

A lot of animals in movies have been partners, or side kicks. We all remember Jim Carrey in the mask, and we also remember his little dog Milo, who was also a hero.

Ruby slippers, yellow brick road and Toto; the three most remembered from the classic ‘Wizard of Oz’. Remarkably filmed in both color and black and white, this tale of Dorothy and her dog Toto still enchants children worldwide, over 70 years after it was made.

Now that CGI technology have made cartoon animals seem almost real, they have gotten even more fun. The worlds’ top movies stars all want to help bring these animated wonders to life.

Season 3 of the Friends Sitcom

The One With The Jam: Joey falls while jumping on the bed and dislocates his arm. Monica tries to stay busy to keep her mind off Richard. First, she makes a lot of jam, which Joey loves. Second, she begins screen sperm donors–and runs into Joey’s file. Phoebe is followed by her sister’s stalker (Malcolm)… then starts dating him. Chandler seeks advice on relationships from Rachel and Ross. Ross secretly tells him about the “hug and roll”–a maneuver designed to end the cuddling and give you some space. Chandler tries it out but ends up dumping Janice on the floor.

The One With The Metaphorical Tunnel: Joey appears in an infomercial for the Milk Master 2000. Phoebe forgets to tell Joey about an audition… but makes it up to him by calling the casting director and pretending to be an agent; Joey asks her to represent him full time. Ross has a hard time accepting that his son plays with a Barbie doll; he tries to get him interested in more masculine toys. Chandler is scared of the “tunnel” of commitment until Joey convinces him to face his fears… but then Chandler overdoes it and scares Janice away for a while. Monica and Rachel welcome Chandler to “their side of the tunnel” and console him with ice-cream.

The One With The Giant Poking Device: Phoebe avoids going to the dentist because whenever she goes, someone dies. Joey tells Chandler about Janice kissing her husband, and Chandler confronts her. She must chose between the two men she loves; it looks like she might choose Chandler, but he decides he can’t be responsible for breaking up her marriage. Ross has an emergency at the museum, so Rachel takes care of Ben; Monica bangs Ben’s head. Ugly Naked Guy has a new hammock, and looks awfully still; the gang fashions a very long poking device out of chopsticks so they can make sure he’s not dead. Gunther continues to brood over Rachel.

The One With All the Jealousy: Rachel has her first day on the job; Ross sends her a singing telegram, and continues to be jealous about Mark. Chandler arranges a bachelor party for his cousin. Joey gets an audition for a Broadway musical, but he can’t dance. Gunther pines for Rachel. Monica falls for Julio, a co-worker at the diner who writes a poetry; he writes a poem for Monica which isn’t very flattering. Ross and Ben have a play date with the stripper from the bachelor party, which makes Rachel jealous.

The One With Phoebe’s Ex-Partner: Phoebe’s former singing partner (Leslie) performs at Central Perk and asks Phoebe if they can get back together. They eventually do, but soon have problems when Leslie sells “Smelly Cat” to a kitty litter company. Chandler meets a woman (Ginger) in the men’s room and asks her out; coincidentally, Joey used to date her– until an unfortunate incident occurred, involving her artificial leg. Chandler gets over the fact that she has an artificial leg, but when Ginger learns he has a third nipple, she dumps him. Ross continues to struggle with Rachel’s career and her involvement with Mark. Chandler has his third nipple removed.

The One With The Hypnosis Tape: Rachel gives Chandler a hypnosis tape to help him quit smoking; however, the tape was designed for women–and it works all too well. Phoebe’s brother, Frank, announces that he’s getting married–to his home economics teacher, who is much older; Phoebe tries to break it up and enlists help from Ross and Joey. Monica gets asked out by a customer at the diner, who turns out to be a millionaire; they go out for pizza… in Italy.

The One With The Tiny T-Shirt: Monica continues to date Pete but is still not attracted to him; he thinks she might change her mind. Joey gets a lead part in a play, but can’t stand the female lead… until he realizes he likes her. Mark asks Rachel out. Rachel asks Ross to come over, but just so she can return some of his stuff; Ross gets upset and demands all his stuff back, including a tiny t-shirt that Rachel likes to sleep in. Later, Ross finds out Rachel is going on a date with Mark and spies on them through Chandler’s peep-hole. Phoebe ponders Spiderman.

The One With the Ultimate Fighting Champion: Monica’s boyfriend Pete begins competing to be the Ultimate Fighting Champion; he loses… repeatedly. Chandler’s new boss has a habit of slapping him on the behind, which Chandler tries to deal with. Phoebe asks Rachel if she can set Ross up with Bonnie; Rachel agrees since Bonnie’s the girl who shaves her head; Later, Rachel finds out Bonnie now has plenty of hair.

The movie Sunshine Cleaning, which got released back in the beginning of last year, was finally offered without charge through my TV cable plan. I have really been itching to watch it based on all the great things that I have heard about it and just finished viewing it.

First, I’ll fill you in on a basic synopsis of the movie without giving anything away. This is a movie starring Amy Adams as Rose Lorkowski and Emily Blunt as Norah Lorkowski, two sisters in their late 20s or early 30s, living in New Mexico.

Their mother died when they were quite young, so they were brought up by only their father who showed them a great deal of love during that hard time. Oscar, portrayed by Jason Spevack, is Rose’s son and is around 8 years old.

Oscar has seemingly had some difficulties growing up without a father, but all in all, he’s a well educated boy, though a misunderstood one.

Now both Norah and Rose continually found it hard to make it in life and went through a lot of hard times financially. He is not doing all that much better than they are, yet their Dad has discovered one way to make it.

This movie really pertains to a type of business that the two sisters start. It is not your ordinary business, as it involves cleaning up an area where someone has died. They do not have to physically remove any bodies. What they must do is to make sure that any blood or other residue in that area has been thoroughly scrubbed clean.

The movie tells the story of their efforts and experience as they build this uniquely interesting business. Through the process, the relationships between Rose and Oscar, Rose and Norah, and various other connections are examined.

The actors in this movie all do a fantastic job and give you a true sense of just how they feel during the hard times and great times. It is my recommendation that you watch this movie as it is a drama that is of the utmost quality.

Every movie lover is anxiously awaiting the 2010 Academy Awards. Taking place on March 7th, 2010, Hollywood will be in full force during the course of the next month.

So many awards are won during the year but none are as prestigious as the Oscar, and that is the one I have chosen to talk about in this article.

It is in the dreams of all directors to eventually win the best picture award. Winning such an award would see the future of the winning director set for further success with the security of budgets put aside for their next big hit.

The best picture race is going to be an interesting one this year. As ten movies have been nominated, there are quite a few that could conceivably win the award.

Up was a great movie and a lot of people loved it for its classic style but it is unlikely to win the best picture award of the year.

An old man travels the world in a kind of house balloon with a child. It was a great film that came with a heart warming story and people are viewing Up as a possible award winner for this year Oscars.

Others are praising A Serious Man, a drama written by the Coen Brothers with dark comedic undertones. This movie was released later in the year and never became a box office hit, but those who saw it really enjoyed it.

Quentin Tarantino is back on form with Inglorious Basterds. This is a great movie and if it doesn’t get the best picture award I am certain that it will get a best actor or supporting Oscar.

But Avatar by James Cameron is everyone’s favorite to win this year’s Oscar award as it brought something fresh to the screens of Hollywood.

March 7th 2010, the time that all those film fanatics will be waiting for. The Academy Awards will see that Hollywood is working nonstop for the next month.

The most famed award, the most prestigious is the Oscar, and who will achieve it this year? There are many awards ceremonies throughout the year but this one is the most noteworthy of them all and it is this one that I shall be commenting on.

It is in the dreams of all directors to eventually win the best picture award. Winning such an award would see the future of the winning director set for further success with the security of budgets put aside for their next big hit.

Ten films have been nominated this year for the best picture award so it’s going to be an exciting ordeal to see who gets to the top.

While it may be unlikely that a Disney movie wins, Up was an instant classic that both critics and moviegoers absolutely loved.

Up was a heart warming movie for the millions that have watched it. It sees an old man travelling with a kid around the world in a house balloon. Many would say that Up is valid contender for the best picture award this year.

The Coen Brothers came up with the film, A Serious Man, this was a dark comedy that people found to be excellent even though it didn’t get to be a box office hit.

There is also Quentin Tarantino who gave us Inglorious Basterds. This was the movie that got Tarantino back on top form; if it doesn’t see an Oscar this year, it may well get a best actor.

James Cameron’s Avatar, of course is the favorite to win this year. Everyone loved it as it had a refreshing style like no other. But you can never tell for sure, we will just have to wait until the cards are opened out on the night.

There have been quite a few ups and downs in the world of basketball this season. This season has been an interesting one with plenty going on in the way of performance and with player news.

In this article, I intend to look at both the good and the bad, the highlights and the low points of the 09 to 10 season.

The first thing we should recognize is some of the teams that have come out of nowhere and established themselves as very respectable basketball teams. There are two that stand out to me more than any others, and these were both two of the worst teams in the league last season.

First is the Oklahoma City Thunder, a team that people believed had a bright future but never thought they would be competitive this quickly. Thanks to superstar Kevin Durant, the team has suddenly morphed from one of the worst in the league to one with a winning record this season.

Although people had a slight hunch with the Thunder, when it came to The Memphis Grizzlies, no one had ever thought that they would make it this season or any season for that matter.

But now, this team is playing extremely well and it also looks like they might make the playoffs. This is all down to the great team play from OJ Mayo, Rudy Gay, Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph.

On the negative side of things, there was the Gilbert Arenas incident that marred the image of the league. Having been caught in the locker room pointing a gun at the teammate, the Washington guard was suspended for the rest of the year and pleaded guilty to felony charges.

But on the up side, some up and coming hopefuls have risen up like Tyreke Evans amongst others. Guys like these provide a bit of optimism for the future of basketball, so it can’t all be bad.
